Our standard frame width
is 140mm x 38mm for the external walls and
89mm x 38mm for the internal walls, which
even using the cheapest insulation both
meets and exceeds the required building
control regulations for energy efficiency.
Quoting U values can be dangerous
as they are a bit of a minefield, but depending
on the type of insulation and membrane used,
U values should be between 0.20 and 0.27.
(The lower the number the better).
You can choose to fit a second layer of
insulation over the internal studs. U values
with that system are between 0.15 and 0.21.
If none of that means anything
to you, simply tell us whether you want
a house that requires very little energy
to heat and are prepared to spend a little
more on the structure to do so, or if you’d
rather save money during the build process,
and we’ll advise a system suited to you.
As standard, we fit a boarded
and felted roof ensuring that your frame
is weather resistant the moment we leave
site enabling your follow on trades to immediately
start work internally, and overcoming the
worry of your roofer not being able to start
straight away, and the frame getting damaged
in the event of a heavy downpour.
This feature is not
generally offered by Timber Frame suppliers
and should be taken into account when comparing
quotes
If you’d like even better
U values and have the luxury of being able
to lose some floor space, then you can specify
our wider 195mm x 38mm frame. The wider
cavity enables you to pack in even more
insulation and achieve a building that needs
very little energy to heat.
