You
wouldn't expect a Traditional Builder to
make the bricks.....
and
you wouldn't ask a Brick Maker to build
a house.....
So
why expect a Timber Frame Builder to make
a Frame?
This is where we are proud
to differ from our competitors; Solo Timber
Frame DOES NOT have its own Factory.
Our experience as Property
Developers purchasing Timber Frames from
some of our competitors, proved to us that
the skill and value in building a Timber
Frame House is not in the manufacture, but
in the Design, Engineering and Site Erection.
After all, at its simplest a Timber Frame
panel is four accurately cut lengths of
timber nailed into a rectangle with a sheet
of board fixed to the back, much like a
timber picture frame, only on a much larger
scale.
Many of our competitors choose to concentrate
on the Manufacture and sub contract the
Design, Engineering and Erection to others,
thereby losing control of what we consider
to be the most crucial aspects of any Timber
Frame project.
Solo keep Architectural
design, Engineering/Panel design and the
build processes in house and work very closely
with two UK based trade only manufacturers.
We decide which to use depending on a number
of factors, including the location of your
plot and the type of frame you choose.
Another benefit of not having
to keep a factory busy full time, is that
we are able to offer what is known as ‘stick
build’ which is basically manufacture of
the Timber Frame on site. This method is
suited to plots with difficult access conditions
that are too small to accept goods vehicles
and cranes.
Don't think for a second
that the price of your Timber Frame will
go up. Whilst we do put a small mark up
on the amount charged by our manufacturer,
their trade only status means that they
are much cheaper to start with.
Not owning a factory does
not mean that our clients are alienated
from the manufacturing process. We have
a strong working relationship with our manufacturers,
and as such they are happy to talk directly
with you, offering advice, assistance and
even factory visits if required.
So, if we're not manufacturers,
then what are we? Probably the best description
is a Design and Building company who specialise
in Timber Frame Construction for Self Builders.
It's a bit of a mouthful, but pretty accurate!
